Hi all, I just bought my first Mac for use in my personal photo studio, a refurbed 2011 Mac Mini i5 2.5ghz. As I was setting up external drives and putting the mini through its paces, I ran a disk benchmark (BlackMagic Disk Speed Test) and got some pretty poor scores.

Disk Speed For Mac
My mini's internal drive hits roughly 40MB/s for both sequential read and sequential write. Mac apps download. Am I correct in thinking that this is poor performance even for a 5400 rpm drive? The drive is mostly full; there are 50GB free. Would you recommend that I address this with Applecare?
If you connect a disk formatted for Windows, it can be reformatted (permanently removing all data) to a Mac format and used as a backup disk. The most common format for a Time Machine backup disk is Mac OS Extended format (Journaled) format, but Time Machine also supports Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) and Xsan formats. Reset outlook for mac. Blackmagic Disk Speed Test is a modern looking application that enables you to test the performance of your disk array by measuring both the writing and reading capabilities. Blackmagic Disk Speed Test is designed to analyze your disk’s performance under different stress values, going from. Sep 28, 2020 Space is crucial for your Mac. It allows you to work efficiently, increase the performance of your Mac, and avoid slowing down. In case your disk is full, you need to take immediate action to correct that to get back to optimal speed and performance.
Here are two other Minis (same 5400 rpm drive) hitting much higher marks:

Disk Speed Test (by Blackmagic) is a hard disk benchmarking application for Mac OS X. It quickly measure and certifies the read/write rate of your hard disk, so that you can access it’s performance and quality. This can be quite useful to determine if your hard drive is slowing down due to some reason or if it requires some sort of tweaking to enhance it’s speed. For example, sometimes a hard drive’s performance can be affected due to strained system resources, like in the case of high CPU and RAM consumption.
Moreover, some SSD’s make their benchmark speeds appear faster than what they may actually be capable of. Blackmagic Disk Speed Test measures the true speed of these SSD’s, so that you are able to determine if they are suitable for high quality uncompressed video capture. Disk Speed Test (application) can hence, help you evaluate both performance and readability of your hard drive.
To start hard disk benchmarking, click the Start button. This will initiate your hard drive speed test by using large blocks of data. Before starting the hard drive read & write benchmark test, you can also specify target drive and the amount of load that you wish to put on your hard drive. This can be configured from Settings option (located between read and write meters).

The main window of Disk Speed Test, shows the video qualities which are supported by your hard drive. For example, it marks a tick for 10 Bit RGB 4:4:4 column (NTSC and PAL) during testing. This essentially means that your hard disk will perform smoothly with this video format.
